hi..... thanks a lot for ur kind words....... sorry I am not sure abt ur 1st query....i think the latter sounds better but better consult someone experienced......
1st author is the one whose name is the 1st and 2nd author is the one whose name comes after 1st when the paper gets published...whereas the last author is generally supervisor and the faculty member.....tc and best of luck!
Accredited medical schools
Hi Umar Bhai,
I wanted to ask you how I could find if I am enrolled in an accredited medical school. There is anothere mail waiting in your gmail inbox :)
Hope you are doing great!
Research Electives
First of all I would like to congratulate you. www.umartariq.com is doing a splendid job and I
appreciate your efforts, its really awesome how all the queries are
addressed and arranged in the most appropriate manner.
I wanted to ask you that I have to apply for my research electives in the United States, but since I am not a U.S Citizen, I require a visa before I am eligible for a research program. Their visa requirement is F-1, J-1, H-1,
H-1B, or TN visa; and I wasn’t really sure what I should do about it, so the best thing I came up with is to ask you!
Hope you are having a great day.
thanks a lot ali for your
thanks a lot ali for your kind words! well if you are looking for research electives... then first of all apply to places you want to go...I myself went to Johns Hopkins for research electives and many people I know, go for research electives over there.... once you are accepted at that place, depending upon the place you are given a visa letter; like B1 for Hopkins... so you don't need to have a visa to do research electives.... but it is the other way round... you need to be first accepted for a research electives and then you apply for visa on the basis of that... so apply as early as possible... to have sufficient time for visa processing... is this what you were asking! I hope I answered the question! tc and best of luck!
Yaar Ali then you should post
Yaar Ali then you should post this comment under visa section not under research section. Anyhow, keep one thing in mind...very clearly... it is not you to decide what visa you need... it is the research program that accept you...so u dont need to worry on this issue...once u r accepted, they would themselves inform u which visa you need to apply for... there is no stipend on B1...
You are still confused... it is not like what you are thinking it to be... you seem to have a notion that you would apply for a visa(lets say J1) without anything, without any acceptance and would get the visa(first of all that's impossible you wont get any visa without any acceptance)...and then once you have the visa you would get a paid position ONLY because you have a visa... its not like that... you apply to programs... once accepted then they offer you visa... so you should not waste your energy on thinking about visa... rather you should think about looking for such programs!
P.S: 1. You don't have to be a US citizen to apply for research/ electives/ residency.
2. I dont think there is any program in US that gives paid research or stipend for research to foreign/ international medical students. Even if there is any, you cant improve ur chances of acceptance by having a visa as there are different visas for different jobs. And once you are accepted to any such program(if exists), they would tell you which visa you need for this position and would give you a letter for that.
Plz go through the sections of visa, research and electives on this website... in detail... before replying to this comment! tc and best of luck!

Umar bhai i am a final year
Umar bhai i am a final year medical student in Pakistan but have a green card and will be applying for the match of 2013. I will be done with my steps around march 2012 and will have a whole year to do nothing, so I am planning to do paid research during that time so that I can earn some money as well as it would count in my experience. Can you please help me how to get the paid research as I wasn't able to find one on the blog or any one who is doing a paid resaerch can share his/her experience about it.
Research in the US
Hi Umar bhai!
I had a small doubt about how much time it takes to complete a research project. In my college internship ends on april 23 of every year. (1) If I go for some research in the US after that will i be able to complete that in time for the match that same year.(2) Is applying for research in the united states the same process as applying for clerkships?(3) How much earlier than the dates of research should I ideally apply?
Will be waiting for you reply.
Thanking you,
Terence
1. Every research project has
2. At some places, yes while at others, you need to contact the faculty members directly!
3. Ideally 8-10 months in advance!
prospects in the research field
Hello friends,
I am a final year student, I am very much interested in research but do not have much info.
Please .. could someone guide me with it.. I have a few doubts..
WHen in the sphere of research.. what nature of work do u have.. how many working hours... how well do u get paid.. how exactly do u go about it..i mean is it just like any residency programme.. where u do electives in final yr , write usmle and apply for match? what is the level of difficulty to get research? is it possible to go for research after doing ur residency and fellowship in some clinical field. It would really great if somebody could help me with this!!!
joint research in UG
hi umar.. first i would like to appreciate you for your efforts to help others in their prepation for getting into residency programs .. you are doing a great job... the new website is awesome .. Al the best for your road to radiology!
these are my questions
>does long time joint research ( two or three UG students working under a single prof) carry the same weightage as doing a research single handedly under the guide for the same duration or is its credit diluted when compared to doing the research singlehandedly ?
>What does first author and second author mean while publishing the research paper??
thanks in advance...
